inspired by some gorgeous handspun spotted at etsy (her dreads) and of all things, the brilliant green of wet lichen (the concept). somewhere on my hard drive i have a great macro of lichen on a water oak just after a summer storm. (it's patiently waiting to be processed, along with tootoo many others.) the rich brown of wet tree bark in contrast with the acid green frills remind me of espresso and cheap, premixed absinthe. a simple shot, but really vibes for me. and i'm not even that into brown generally.
so this one has been poking at me for a while now & might have been in my sketchbook forever if i hadn't found larafairie-stock's photo. it struck me instantly as perfect match - with that expression, plus the flower suggesting nature.
i went back and forth a lot with that flower btw. lapis blue + golden tones = a renaissance feel that's pretty much missing without the flower. but with the dreads it was almost (?) too much, and i just couldn't bring myself to lose them. so i sampled the blue and painted it in here and there throughout.
i like it, but i'm still thinking about bringing back the flower.
